Director’s statement
I was shocked at how cruelly and unfairly they can treat a person who is only merely dares to think, who has his own thoughts and opinions. The Given Ward is a metaphor that reflects on Russia as a whole. This film is only an episode in a grander piece of narration. I hope after watching it, the viewer will have a desire to read the story in its entirety and understand the essence of the whole narrative. It will remind you of our Russian classics that need to be read, re-read and filmed!
ABOUT THE FILM DIRECTOR:
John Beliba (real name Evgeniy Beliba) was born on 02.05.1989 in the Kirghiz SSR. In 2013 he received his first higher education in KRSU, specialty "Architect - Designer". In 2014 he moved to Moscow. In 2022, he received additional education from VGIK (professional retraining under the program "Film Directing and Film Dramaturgy").
