In the mountains of the Abakan ridge, in the remote Siberian taiga, lives a unique hermit Agafya Karpovna - the last of the Lykov family of Old Believers. Many have heard of their story. Back in 1936, the Lykov family settled in the deep taiga, far from other people. Geologists "discovered" the Lykov family in 1978. At that time, the family consisted of a father and four children. When meeting people, they were at first very scared, but then they nevertheless made contact and began to tell the guests about their way of life. It turned out that they themselves weave their clothes and weave shoes from birch bark, while everyone can read and write, however, in the Old Church Slavonic. It turned out that the Lykovs lead a deeply religious lifestyle, which at one time became the reason for their departure to the taiga.

Director’s statement
In this film, we tried to reveal the rich inner world of Agafya Lykova. To tell about the origins of her fortitude, about her ability to survive in the taiga in complete isolation. To show that despite a difficult life, where every day is a struggle for survival, it exists in complete harmony with itself and the world. We tried to make the clash of two civilizations, two "cosmos" an important part of the film: Agafya and her guests from the capital. For the most part, Agafya Karpovna talks about her life. Her story gives us an opportunity to think about what is eternal and what is temporary in the life of every person. Participants of long-term expeditions also talk about Agafya and her stories. The life of Agafya, like the lives of the entire Lykov family, is a story about the victory of fortitude over circumstances, about the fact that a person always has the opportunity to preserve the integrity of his personality. True, for this it is sometimes necessary to make a very difficult choice.
