Director’s statement
One of the topics that excites me today is the charm of my peers, people 20-35 years old, with a mixture of esotericism, mysticism and vanity, which leads to mental disorders, a feeling of loss and inner emptiness. The film explores a young couple's attempt to mend their lives and rebuild a dying relationship through flirting with religious esoteric themes. Is it possible to successfully convince yourself that your problems will be solved through a mystical ritual or will you still have to face reality? The motive of escaping from reality, in addition to esotericism, is reinforced in the film with the help of details of modern life, characteristic of modern youth. These are games, and alcohol, and an endless stream of content, and the illusion of choice (for example, food from delivery), with which you can hide behind, like my hero hides behind his coat at the end of the film, and actually decide nothing. The main directorial task in creating this film, I saw the need to make the characters, their behavior, their dialogues, their values as raw and recognizable as possible for my audience. I am especially proud that our first viewers from Central Asia said after watching the film that it was like every evening at their home. An important part of the narrative, of course, is self-irony, without which, in my opinion, contemporary art is impossible.
